Pheasant and Grouse Shooting

Pheasant

Shooting takes place in the parkland and woodland around the Castle and also along the bank of the famous River Tweed, all managed by our headkeeper, Michael Biggs who has been on the Estate for 30 years.

Days for parties numbering up to ten guns can be provided together with lunch in the Castle and accommodation at the Roxburghe Hotel.

Grouse

The grouse season runs from 12 August to 10 December each year with shooting taking place over our two moors, Byrecleugh and Rawburn in the Lammermuirs. Covering over 10,000 acres, a team of three keepers are employed to manage the heather moorland to the highest standard, which saw the 2009 season be the best year for 20 years.

Days for teams of eight or nine guns can be provided with accommodation provided at the Roxburghe Hotel.
