Homemade shortbread biscuits from the Castle Kitchen at Floors Castle have been awarded a star rating from the Great Taste 2013.
Made to a secret Castle recipe that has been used for decades, the shortbread was put through a series of blind tasting as part of The Great Taste process with more than 16 judges tasting and commenting on the product.
Looking at texture and flavour, the judges remarks were very complimentary, saying the shortbread was attractive with an appealing 'just like homemade' irregularity of colour and shape and a lovely buttery aroma. The judges also praised the "crumbly but not dusty texture releases a buttery flavour with a pleasant sweetness on the finish."
Roddie Jackson, factor at Roxburghe Estate and Floors Castle, commented: "To receive a gold star rating for our shortbread biscuits is a great honour for Floors Castle and the Terrace Café. The high standard of food that is produced by the Floors Castle Kitchen is outstanding. It is a real credit to Chris Percy-Davis and his team to have earned external recognition from such a unique benchmark as the Great Taste Awards.”
The buttery shortbread is among the most popular products sold in the Terrace Café that comes straight from Head Chef Chris Percy-Davis and his team making up the unique range of homemade quiches, pies, cakes, chutneys and marmalades available.
