Grounds & Gardens - The Walled Garden

The Walled Garden at Floors Castle is a wonderful treat for anyone who enjoys the delights of spectacular herbaceous borders and expertly tended shrubs and plants of all types.

Tucked away to the west of Floors Castle, the Walled Garden is accessed by a separate entrance from the main Castle.

Here, Queen Victoria took tea during her visit in 1867. Today's visitors can enjoy the splendid food and refreshments on sale at The Terrace Cafe. Whether it be for morning coffee, a scrumptious lunch or afternoon tea - the Terrace Cafe is sure to please. All served in the small restaurant or outside in the terrace that looks onto these delightful gardens.

Many of the great gardening traditions can be seen here - espalier fruit trees, topiary and traditional Scottish garden favorites. Ornamental borders also co-exist alongside soft fruit and vegetable beds, surrounding the peach glass house. The most remarkable feature of the garden are the original Victorian iron poles, dripping with huge swags of crimson American pillar rambling roses and purple clematis.

Beneath the tunnel of colour and scent blow great swathes of grasses, lupins, geraniums, campanulas and euphorbias, creating a rich colour palette - truly memorable! Flowers are still cut for the main house from the packed herbaceous borders and keen gardeners can purchase many of the plants in the plant centre adjacent to the Gardens.
