The flag above the Roxburghe Hotel flew at half mast this week as a mark of respect following the death of Dave Thomas, aged 79.
Designer of the Roxburghe Championship Golf Course, Dave Thomas was one of Britain’s top golfers. Career highlights include finishing second in the Open Championship, representing Great Britain in the Ryder Cup on four occasions in the late 1950s and 1960s and being elected to the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
In his later career as a golf course designer, the Roxburghe Championship Golf Course is regarded as one of his finest creations. He will be greatly missed by the team at the Roxburghe. He received honorary life membership of the European Tour earlier this year and he will be remembered over coming weeks as the European Tour’s Qualifying School First Stages get underway at the Roxburghe Championship Golf Course and seven other courses across Europe.
