PGA Club Professional Craig Montgomerie is on hand to provide PGA coaching and golf lessons and tuition together with advice and tips on the course.
Craig's top tip before arriving is "if unsure, take an extra club - most golfers tend to under club as the greens are deceiving, appearing closer than they actually are".
Craig Montgomerie & Steve Johnston are both PGA Professionals at Roxburghe Golf Course and are on hand to provide expert golf tuition.
Craig & Steve provide coaching on an individual basis from half an hour to 1.5 hours. The sessions can be geared to everyone from a beginner to a more experienced player and, of course, juniors.
Craig & Steve also offer 'playing lesson' which consist of a 1/2 hour session on the range followed by a 9 hole lesson on the course which covers, technique, long game, short game, specialist lies, mind games and course management.
As well as individual coaching Craig & Steve can provide group clinics in 1 hour sessions. Steve is on the current panel of Bunkered Golf Magazine providing expert tips and videos on the golf swing.
From North Berwick in Scotland, Steve began playing golf at 12 and quickly found himself hooked on the game. Playing off scratch at 22 and having represented county and club at boys and adult level, he made the decision to turn professional at the Open qualifying venue Musselburgh Golf Club in Edinburgh only a few miles from Muirfield. As a qualified PGA professional, Steve played full time for 6 years before moving to the Roxburghe Golf Club where he continued honing his coaching skills and is now head of instruction, a Scottish golf development centre coach and a member of the Bunkered Magazine Tuition Panel.
During his time as head of instruction Steve has coached at the Handa Wales Open on the European Tour and been an integral part of coaching youth development to a level of national academy standard.
Steve has maintained his career development from passing his degree in golf studies with Merit to becoming a PGA level 3 coach. Steve has furthered his development through courses in sports psychology, custom fitting, and golf swing principles and is currently studying to become an advanced professional in the game. Steve aims to build lesson programs and practice programs to help all levels of player improve through swing analysis allowing the player to concentrate on their game with easy access to coaching through face to face and interactive coaching.
The Roxburghe Golf Club holds Junior Golf Clinics during the summer holidays. These covers the whole golf swing over a period of two weeks (Mon, Wed, Fri for 1 hour, twice per day for a fortnight). Steve uses a method called "The Backward Chaining Method" which starts with the shortest movement in the swing and continues over the weeks to construct the entire golf swing.
